About Calmr Anxiety Coaching
I am so excited to Launch. Thanks for visiting my site.
What is Calmr coaching about?
Its about equipping your child with empirically based anxiety strategies to help overcome anxiety in a relational, nurturing environment.
Coaching is relaxed, relational and relevant. For teens, we meet online and I am there to help them where they need it. I will teach skills relevant to their everyday needs, integrating it with their experiences to give context.
I have written a 12 week program as a loose guide that gives a great toolbox of skills to set them up to win. Each step builds upon the previous step so it feels safe and achievable.
Calmr is also a "win" for parents. After each coaching session, I email parents with the skills we are building and practicing for the next fortnight. That way, they can be reminding, challenging and creating a consistent approach.
Why have I started Calmr?
I'm passionate about helping our kids. There is SO much we can do to help with anxiety. But there seems to be gap.
-
Working as a school counsellor, I had the know how but not the time.
-
Private Psychology and counselling are amazing and encouraged for complex needs but its pretty intimidating for kids to relax in that space. It can add to the anxiety.
- Or, we (professionals) find time to teach skills, but parent engagement is low because it takes more time that we don't have.
So, here I am. My little start up! I'm excited and I know I can help your struggling child and give you some direction so there is a consistent approach to beating this hiccup called anxiety.
How are we different from psychology and counselling?
All focus on personal development and well-being, but they differ in approach, scope & goals.
In coaching we work with your child to set goals and develop new skills, supporting and empowering them to conquer their fears step by step. I am a safe place to just be real and work out the best tools to help them. Our approach is future-oriented, action-based, and solution focused - using questioning, accountability and achievable strategies.
If your child has past events that need addressing, or significant mental health concerns Psychology is the best place to start.
Psychology studies human behavior, mental processes and emotions, commonly treating disorders. Psychology suits those wanting to understand their behavior, deal with maladaptive behaviors and need assistance with mental health concerns. They use assessments, & interventions based on psychological theories.
Where does coaching take place?
High School 13-18 year old's - Online Coaching ANYWHERE
Primary School 7 - 12 year old's - Face to Face (Eastern Suburbs Sydney). There is not a whole lot out there for our younger ones, but because language and brain development are still underdeveloped, PLAY needs to be integrated into coaching which requires face to face. I suggest looking for a play therapist in your local area.
What We Offer

Primary school - ages 7-12
Usually 12 fortnightly sessions, however coaching will occur at the childs pace, and is very flexible to individual needs.
For clients under 12, coaching must be face to face due to the integration of play, so is limited to Eastern Suburbs in Sydney. There may be some flexibility for 11 &12y.o to be online at the discretion of parents and Calmr Coaching.

High School - ages 12-18
For clients 12 and above, coaching occurs online. Most commonly 12 fortnightly sessions - at a set, afterschool time slot.
The coaching relationship is not about right and wrongs but about finding ways that work for each individual and being their biggest cheer leader.
The number and exact structure of sessions can be tailored for each client. They set the pace.

Additional Options
Additional sessions are always an option for extra support, to educate other important stakeholders like a parent, teacher or carer.
School Teacher Training is also available, tailored to specific school needs.

A bit about me

I'm Julie Wilkins, the mother of two adult children and my husband and I have recently become empty nesters.
I’m qualified Master of Counselling (M.Coun) and Post Graduate Certificate in Play Therapy (PG.cert PT). I worked in the private school sector (K-12) as a school counsellor and completed further study in Play Therapy. I then worked in the not-for-profit space as a Counsellor / Play Therapist, leading Teenager, Young Adult and Play Therapy teams.
As someone who has studied, treated and experienced anxiety I understand the how and the why. These empirically proven strategies do work.
